Before yesterday, I had never been to Coney Island during the winter. This time I took advantage of the clear skies and headed there after an early afternoon appointment. It had been quite some time since I had been out for hours with my camera. The weather wasn't too cold (or I was bundled up too well to be cold), so I enjoyed the breeze, the sound of the ocean, and the sound of my shutter clicking over 200 times.

The breeze and the roar of the ocean must have cleared out some cobwebs, because by the time I hopped on the train at sunset, my brain was overflowing with ideas. I dug a fountain pen out of my knapsack and frantically scribbled the ideas in my journal for future reference. One shoot will be for a warmer day, as my favorite subject is not likely to want to pose on the shore while it is winter. (She is not likely to want to pose anyway, but I'll have to find some way to convince her...or catch her in a good mood!) The other idea is a studio shoot, so we can do that one any time we feel like pulling out the props and clearing space in the living room. I can see the shots in my head, and I can hardly wait to make them real!

I did something new when I got home: I cut out photos I admired from a Vogue Paris shoot and pasted them into my photography notebook. Then I wrote what I liked about the composition and lighting. I am going to do that on a regular basis, for inspiration. Perhaps as I experiment with recreating those shots, I'll post here about the process.

It looks like 2010 has the potential to be an exciting year of photography for me.
